We had a bit of a slow start today as we had to sort some admin out from home … it took ages  using live chat - I’d much rather phone but I can’t from here! When we finally got out it was even hotter than yesterday so we headed for the museum of human rights.

On our way there a man and his son walked by us and he looked quite worried. He approached us and asked if we spoke English and then told us to be very careful and to stay with other people. It made me really on edge. We’d been happily wandering about day and evening since getting to town. I’m sure he had our best interests at heart…

It was quite a hike and that part of town isn’t very interesting. The museum on the other hand was very interesting and had a free Wi-Fi app so that we could get the English translation. We later walked around a massive park - Parque Quinta Normal . So many different trees giving welcome shade to everyone having picnics and using the pedalos. Had another ice cream today …the passion fruit flavour was scrumptious. We chatted to a couple of tourists from the USA this evening, as every other evening that we’ve been here, there is loud street music playing nearby to accompany us as we sort our luggage for our departure tomorrow morning. We’ve enjoyed our city break in Santiago…I shall miss the view of the mountains sunsets from the 22nd floor.

Santiago has loads of these small independent book stalls selling new and second hand books

These book stalls were a couple of blocks from our apartment

The fraction of the “disappeared” as displayed in the museum of memory and human rights. Very moving and incredibly interesting displays of the period of the military dictatorship.

The exterior of the museum. A very modernist design

Parque Quinta Normal

More street art

Vegetables on the move!

A lot of the centre has neo classical architecture

The last night’s view from our apartment
